UNICEF deploys emergency teams to Egypt and Tunisia to protect children
As families continue to flee the violence in Libya, UNICEF has launched the Libya Crisis Children's Appeal for US$13 million to address urgent humanitarian needs.
Over 600,000 people have already fled the country, mainly into neighbouring Tunisia and Egypt. Women and children are the most vulnerable and there are immediate concerns for the protection of children against violence and exploitation.
Please donate now to help UNICEF provide urgently-needed supplies to those affected by the violence.
In Libya, critical facilities such as clinics and hospitals have been closed, while food supply routes have been disrupted. UNICEF has already pre-positioned supplies on the Tunisian and Egyptian sides of the border with urgently-needed items like hygiene kits, nutrition and health supplies, first aid kits, and early childhood development kits.
In Tunisia and Egypt, UNICEF’s child protection work includes psychosocial support and family tracing and reunification efforts in anticipation of increasing numbers of unaccompanied or separated children.
UNICEF has deployed a core response team to the country, whose initial focus is child protection and psychosocial support, water, sanitation, hygiene nutrition and emergency health care.
