TOGETHER, FOR CHILDREN
More than anything, we at UNICEF Canada aim to help every child survive and thrive, with no exceptions.
And to be sure that we reach every child, we have developed a series of programs and initiatives specifically geared to you and the growing network of teachers across Canada who make it a priority to engage, empower and inspire their students to grow and develop as global citizens.
Join UNICEF’s community of educators and let us help you and your school community invest in the positive transformation of every child’s future.
LEARN: Global Citizenship begins with a little learning
UNICEF Canada’s Global Classroom program is a partnership with teachers and students. Through it we seek to inspire, educate and promote action on social justice, humanitarian issues and human rights - especially the rights of all children.
Designed to foster global citizenship and understanding, the Global Classroom shows how each of us can create a better world for all children and the communities in which they live.
This acclaimed program provides educators with classroom-ready resources and engagement tools. Tools such as:
Bilingual elementary and secondary resources
Professional development opportunities through school districts, educational organizations and university partnerships

ENGAGE: Rights Respecting Schools is an exciting new initiative
It uses the Convention on the Rights of the Child as a framework for fostering inclusive, participatory and respectful school culture for children and adults. Children learn about their rights and the responsibilities that accompany them. This in turn leads to a more positive, inclusive and peaceful school climate; higher rates of student achievement; lower absenteeism; and higher rates of teacher satisfaction.
Implementing the Rights Respecting School model provides schools with a holistic and integrated approach to student development.

EMPOWER: Empower your students to make a tangible difference for around the world
Every Halloween for over 56 years Canadian children have shown they care by raising much needed funds for global efforts to help children and families in need.
What began as ‘the little orange box’ you may remember fondly has evolved into a diverse range of educational and fundraising activities. We provide classroom resources to teach kids about global citizenship -- including DVD’s, posters, lesson plans and activity ideas at unicef.ca/oct31. Children, parents and educators can choose a fundraising method that works for them, either by collecting pledge envelopes, holding a fundraising event in the school, or both.
We hope you’ll join with us this year as we strive to enrich the school environment, help you provide a global education and help students and their families make sense of ongoing and emerging issues facing children around the world.

ACT: Act to assist the most vulnerable
When an emergency strikes teachers and students can make an enormous difference in the lives of vulnerable children.
UNICEF provides resources for educators to help explain the complex disasters that their students encounter in the media. We provide helpful guides that enable teachers to initiate a discussion with their students and age-appropriate activities that encourage students to explore their reactions to these crises. Your school community can also show support with simple activities, like Toonie Tuesdays, or by distributing UNICEF pledge forms to collect donations from friends and families.
