Meet Nyajime. When the 4-year-old arrived at our UNICEF-supported clinic at the Protection of Civilians site in Juba, she was emaciated and extremely fragile. She barely weighed 19 pounds— half of what she should weigh at her age. In her weakened state, she had also contracted tuberculosis.
Death was surely just days away. But with the generous support of UNICEF donors, Nyajime is now nothing like the emaciated little girl who was first admitted. She is full of energy, she laughs and plays with her family, and she looks forward to going to school.
With resources stretched to the limit, we must scale up our efforts now to prevent more children from dying.
I know the numbers may seem overwhelming, but I promise you, your gift really does make a difference in a child’s life. Even a little goes a long way. For example, $12 can provide 21 packets of Plumpy’Nut®. This is enough therapeutic food to feed an undernourished child for one week. And just $43 would cover the cost of 50 sachets of therapeutic milk to feed 10 children.
