Türkiye and Syria Earthquake Appeal

We urgently need your support to respond to the critical needs of children and their families facing the aftermath of the four devastating earthquakes and hundreds of aftershocks that hit Syria and south-east Türkiye. Please donate now.

On the morning of February 6, a 7.7 magnitude earthquake hit south-east Türkiye and Syria, followed by a second 7.6 magnitude earthquake. Tens of thousands of people have been killed, including children, with the death toll continues to increase. Thousands more have been injured, and thousands of schools, hospitals and homes have been damaged or destroyed.

On February 20, two weeks after these initial two devastating earthquakes hit south-east Türkiye and Syria, children and families in affected areas experienced two additional large earthquakes – of 6.4 and 5.8 magnitude – resulting in further buildings collapsing and reports of more people killed and injured.

In Türkiye, UNICEF is providing urgent assistance including child protection services such as immediate psycho-social support, safe drinking water and sanitation services, winter clothes and ensuring the evacuation of children to safe spaces in the affected areas.

In Syria, UNICEF teams are providing emergency assistance to children and families. The earthquakes come at a time where two-thirds of the population are already struggling due to ongoing conflict, a harsh winter and difficult economic conditions. UNICEF is responding to the urgent needs of children in Syria by providing shelter, protection, safe drinking water and sanitation services, nutrition and hygiene essentials. As schools have been damaged, UNICEF is also setting up temporary learning spaces to ensure children can get back to learning soon.

We need your urgent support to reach more children affected by this disaster.

Give today to help provide emergency assistance to children and families in Syria and Türkiye. All donations are eligible for a tax credit as a charitable gift.  If you prefer to donate by phone, please call 1 877 955 3111. We are available to answer your call 24/7.
