Help children affected by the Libya floods

Children and families are facing catastrophic flooding and landslides after Storm Daniel swept northeastern Libya on September 11, 2023. Two dams have collapsed, sweeping entire neighbourhoods in the port city of Derna into the sea. More than 6,000 people have died, and about 10,000 people have been reported missing.

The storm and floods have caused significant damage to roads, electricity grids and other infrastructure. Schools and hospitals have been destroyed, electricity and telecommunication networks disrupted.

Children and families have been displaced and are in urgent need of safe water, shelter, medical supplies and psychosocial support.

Donate now to help provide urgent life-saving assistance to children and families in Libya.

UNICEF is rapidly responding to the needs of people caught in this crisis. But we urgently need your help.

We are rushing emergency supplies to the affected areas including:

  • 1,100 Hygiene kits;
  • Vital medical supplies for 10,000 people;
  • Essential clothing kits for hundreds of children.

How your donation will help children in Libya:

  • $74 could provide an emergency shelter for a family of five;
  • $150 could provide 35,646 water purification tablets to ensure 5,941 children have safe water to drink and bathe;
  • $200 could provide 730 children with essential therapeutic food and emergency supplies.

Give today to provide emergency assistance to children and families affected by the floods in Libya. All donations are eligible for a tax credit as a charitable gift. If you prefer to donate by phone, please call 1 877 955 3111. We are available to answer your call 24/7.
