Venezuela earthquakes: children need urgent support

Two devastating 7.2 and 7.5-magnitude earthquakes struck northern Venezuela within a minute of each other on June 24, causing widespread destruction. They are the strongest earthquakes to hit Venezuela in more than 125 years.

Homes and buildings have collapsed across affected areas, including Caracas and La Guaira, leaving families in immediate need of shelter, clean water and medical care. Early reports confirm lives have been lost and hundreds of people injured, with fears that the number will rise as rescue efforts continue.

Before the earthquakes, 3.9 million children in Venezuela already needed humanitarian aid. Now, this disaster has deepened a crisis marked by malnutrition, preventable disease, violence and exploitation.

UNICEF has been in Venezuela since 1967, and local teams are already on the ground working to deliver critical humanitarian support to children and families. But we can’t do it alone.

Your donation today can help UNICEF rush emergency support for children and families affected by this disaster by providing:

  • Lifesaving essentials such as safe water, medical supplies, nutrition and emergency shelter.
  • Mental health and psychosocial support for children and families coping with trauma.
  • Family reunification services for children separated from loved ones.
  • Timely cash transfers that help families meet their most critical needs.

Donate today to help us reach more children and families in Venezuela.

All donations are eligible for a tax credit as a charitable gift. If you prefer to give by phone, please call 1-877-955-3111. We are available to answer your call 24/7.
