Emergency Aid Needed in Southern Africa

Every year, UNICEF responds to more than 300 emergencies, from conflicts to natural disasters.

High winds and massive flooding from Tropical Cyclone Idai have affected more than 3 million people in Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Malawi –half of them are children. Children and their families need safe drinking water, health supplies and emergency shelter.

UNICEF is moving quickly to respond to the impact of the cyclone. We are working with other UN agencies and partners to monitor the unfolding situation and coordinate responses. We have already shipped in emergency supplies, including thousands of antibiotics test kits, water disinfection kits and water guards.

Life-saving supplies can be delivered by us within 72 hours to the most vulnerable children almost anywhere in the world. In times of emergency and wherever the lives of children are at risk, we are there for every child.
