Afghanistan Emergency Response Fund
Afghanistan is one of the most dangerous places to be a child.
Afghan children and families are experiencing increasingly deteriorating living conditions since the Taliban seized power in August 2021. Decades of conflict have left systems on the brink of collapse and the country is experiencing one of the biggest humanitarian crises in the world today.
The situation continues to deteriorate due to prolonged conflict, chronic poverty, drought, a gender crisis and economic hardships, and children are the ones paying the price.
Around 875,000 children under the age of 5 require life-saving treatment for severe acute malnutrition (SAM) while 13.3 million people have no access to healthcare.
In March 2023, Afghanistan experienced flooding in multiple parts of the country and a 6.5-magnitude earthquake in the north and eastern regions. Afghan children and families urgently need humanitarian assistance to survive.
